The political spectrum wraps around and converges at the extremes. I'm reminded of the controversy in Portland around water fluoridation. Many of the ostensibly left-wing opponents of fluoridation, when presented with the argument that poor people without access to dental services would suffer without water fluoridation, rebutted this by essentially saying that poor people don't deserve to have healthy teeth anyway.
