Am I the only one looking for concrete evidence in that article that supports the central thesis of "There is peace"?
Is this just a psychologist looking outside his window thinking "Ahhh, the crime rate seems lower today than yesterday. Ahhh."?
- nwatson 17y agoThe author cites many studies and gives compelling evidence. That 10,000 years ago an average human stood between a 15% and 60% chance of dying a victim of murder or war, and that in modern Europe only ~1 in 10,000 people will face a similar fate (extrapolating from the 1 killing per 100,000 people per year) ... that's huge improvement.
- Retric 17y ago1 killing per 100,000 people per year would be closer to a 5 in 10,000 chance of death by violence. Although if you include auto accidents it's probably a lot higher than that.
