You didn't read the article. He would be glad to upgrade to the 15" MacBook but Apple will not tell him if it's a true 8-bit display.
He's simply wants the TRUE specs on the machine.
- eli 17y agoYeah, and they don't want to tell him. So... He can either A) do a google search (which indicates that yes, the 15" does have 8-bit color) or B) Give up on Apple and get a different brand/OS
- vetinari 17y agoSadly no, MBP15 has also 6-bit TN display.
- palehose 17y agoCan you back up this assertion? Since one person in this topic already said that the 15 inch model does have 8bit and you just say that it doesn't, how am I supposed to believe you?
- vetinari 17y agoWell, there are very few notebooks with other than TN displays. Thinkpads used to have IPS, but since the introduction of latest generation (T400, T500), they have TN too. For a very short list, see a poster above (http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=706579 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=706579), he mentions one HP, one Lenovo model with optional IPS (W in series designation means workstation) and one Sony model.
- jonknee 17y agoIf it's so obvious and important to his professional work why doesn't he drag his ass into the Apple store where he bought his MacBook and check out the screens of all available models? This would have been advised before buying the 13" machine, but hey at least he can get a refund. Apple already "misled" him, so why does he care what they say? Walk into the store and check for yourself. Or can he not tell the difference?
- 9oliYQjP 17y agoMight sound like a smart ass remark but if he can't tell by looking at the displays in person whether they're 8-bit or 6-bit, then I can see why 99% of laptops on the market use 6-bit panels. I fully understand that when you compare them side-by-side you can see the difference. But I remember looking into which LCD panels were actually 8-bit and I could count the number of laptops (2 years ago) which were using these panels on one hand.
