Em...no. The author goes at it in a very wrong way. Networking code goes to a network controller which sends outs requests and updates the model when the results arrive from the network. The network controller can easily be unit tested. A controller doesn't have to be a monolithic massive class. It can consist of sub controllers, each one dealing with a specific task.
