I would also desolder and epoxy over any ports that aren't necessary. This year, I would expect to see tools to check for hardware tampering (HIDS for hardware) that can checksum firmware and other non-user data areas. I've forked O-S Tripwire (mostly C++) in case anyone wants to take a crack at it.
