Today Is the Day
Good luck to everybody :)
Update: Sorry if some people think this is off topic, I really never post anything like this (http://news.ycombinator.com/submitted?id=german http://news.ycombinator.com/submitted?id=german), It is just for wishing good luck.
- davidw 19y agoThe YC program sounds cool and like a lot of fun, but as someone who has never submitted an application, I'm going to welcome a return to more 'normal' hacker news discussions.
- cstejerean 19y agoThat would be great. I'm getting tired of posts on "what NO means" and "what to do if you get rejected" and people trying to make themselves look good to YC at the last minute.
- nostrademons 19y agoThough...what happened last time was that a lot of insightful long-term contributors were accepted and then disappeared off the face of the site while they worked on their startup. Meanwhile the folks leftover were all the ones trying to make themselves look good to YC at the last minute. Eventually it rebalanced out. The short-term folks got bored and left, while a new crop of top posters grew out of the ones who weren't ready for YC as of the summer but were going to become startup junkies anyway.
- edw519 19y agoYou bring up an interesting point. On one hand, to be a part of a community, one has a responsibility to contribute from time to time. On the other hand, if you practice what you preach, there probably shouldn't that much time available for posting...
- jsjenkins168 19y agoI've noticed the same thing. There's really just a handful of News.YCers I recognize that have posted consistently since before the last round. Incidentally, its these folks who's opinions I value the most (for the most part).
- jkush 19y agoAbsolutely - I count you among those folks. Nostrademons too.
- Goladus 19y agoOddly enough, I find that I don't pay too much attention to who writes what. The size and color of the usernames, combined with the fact that they're rarely capitalized, means that I usually take note of names only as an afterthought.
- DanielBMarkham 19y agoWhat I like about news.yc (and why I hung around and eventually decided to apply) is that by being for startups, you can find hacks in almost every field, from marketing to partnership formats to kernel hacking. And the emphasis is on the "hack" -- how to get the system to work acceptably well without a lot of screwing around. My fear is that the site will get so popular that some of the good material will get diluted. PG assures us that it's not going to happen. I wonder, though. As a side note, it's very interesting (in a lab rat kind of way) to see how the community of the site actually encourages extra submissions and fervor around YC. YC may crash and burn in the next few years, but the lesson of writing the book, setting up the site, getting the promotion, etc as a way to increase visibility and enthusiasm for the VC/Seed process will remain around for a long time, I think.
- jkush 19y agoI hear you. The reason those are popping up is because after the decisions are made, the posts are almost ALL about rejection and what it means that YC said no. A few preemptive posts the day before will balance out all the rejection posts the day after and will make the forum more "normal" in the aggregate.
- gscott 19y agoI have not yet received an email from YC but I did just get an email from Wal Mart to check out there latest 'Rollbacks'. So at least I have something to read for now.
