There is still tons of drudgery in software engineering (eg web scraping). Which makes me believe there are lots more machine learning revolutions to come. The are all, of course, math led.
- odonnellryan 13y agoWell, web scraping can be fun, too! But depends on what you know about the page. If you don't know anything, it's tough. But if you have an idea about how it's structured... - tlarkworthy 13y agoI did a probabilistic approach before:- http://edinburghhacklab.com/2013/09/probabalistic-scraping-of-plain-text-tables/ http://edinburghhacklab.com/2013/09/probabalistic-scraping-o... Companies like skyscanner employ loads of people to keep all the scrapers fresh.
- hershel 13y agoNot only for drudgery. If you read good research in CS(even for varied fields like anonimity, protocol design, type analysis which usually have nothing to do with machine learning), machine learning have become really core to many of them. To some extent it even seems like the job of the humans is to do the wiring , while the machine learning does the thinking , even in leading edge research.
