I prefer designers who are engineers on that specific platform. Instead if you're working on user interface alone, you better be damn sure to code that implementation of the interface you designed. I've grown tired of photoshop monkeys and UX snake oil salesmen these days. It's not like common sense and designing usability can't be understood by developers of the platforms, especially when the software engineering tools are so close to the design for GUI.
