I think the web was a big success on desktop (modulo some pretty big apps like Photoshop, and we should ask ourselves why apps like Photoshop never landed in the browser, and then fix those issues). As for mobile, it's clear a lot of companies have no problem building their app twice (for both iOS and Android).
