The Tuscon AZ spree shooter was forcibly given anti psych drugs so he would be competent for trial. If not he would have been found insane seems odd to make somebody sane so you can punish them for acts committed while barking mad
- meowface 13y ago"Competent to stand trial" and "not guilty by reason of insanity" are two entirely separate things. They are not mutually exclusive. Someone who is competent to stand trial upon arrest, or weeks or months after arrest, could still very well plead insanity and be found not guilty. I don't know the specifics of this case, but given just those facts he could still very well be found to have been insane.
