  seriously though, I guess possible reasons for this acquisition are: 1. google realizes that robot technology is rapidly advancing, and they want to hold relevant patents 2. google somehow is thinking of extending the idea of google-now, i.e. a personal (virtual) digital assistant, towards actual physical (robotic) assistants 3. something else?
