perhaps an average mind would poo poo themselves as a reaction to that uncertainty.
I like to think I am statedly and knowingly un-average, but not above average in very much at all. There are so many simple tasks that I know exactly how bad I am at (painting, framing work, basic db admin) that I'm happy to laugh at my own incompetence. Perhaps this is also rationalization of some kind of average-ness. Mediocrity can be scary.
