America is a republic and not a direct democracy. Sometimes the professional makes better decisions then millions of less informed armchair quarterbacks that consider the issues for minutes each year--and of course it's impossible to please everyone. Unfortunately, these professionals must pander to the mob every so often to get elected.
- pkinsky 13y agoThere must be some level of correlation between election promises and policy for a country to be considered a republic in any meaningful way. Further, have the 'professionals' running our government shown good enough judgement to justify their ignoring the will of the people?
- DennisP 13y agoThe problem with that approach is that it presumes the "professionals" are making well-considered decisions in the public interest, rather than simply pandering to incumbent elites.
