For me the poster's point was undermined by my own personal experience of interviewing and discovering the alarming frequency at which people with PhDs will bomb the technical interview, simply because they can't program their way out of a paper bag. (And yes, this is my own personal experience, therefore it doesn't prove anything. If you thought I was trying to prove something, you didn't come close to understanding my comment.)
