Spotify desktop app is awesome. There is no real need for a web app.
- dphnx 13y agoElements of the Spotify desktop app (though not all of it) are built using web technologies. They use the Chromium Embedded Framework: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium_Embedded_Framework#Applications_using_CEF http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium_Embedded_Framework#App...
- bubblesorting 13y agoIn my experience, the Spotify desktop app has spotty[1]-at-best linux support, but the webapp seems to do fine. [1] HAH!
- ryanbrunner 13y agoExcept that web apps offer a lot of conveniences for both end users and developers. You never need to update your software on an end-users machine (or write complicated auto-update code) and you can be guaranteed that it will work on any random computer you come across without needing to install anything.
- jeff558 13y ago"you can be guaranteed that it will work on any random computer you come across without needing to install anything" Hah. I call bullshit on that. Also, most apps worth a damn are long-lived and become quite stable after a while. Most web apps are trend-driven garbage that gets turned over every 12 months.
- will_work4tears 13y agoWell, I can only install certain apps on my work computer, and Spotify is not on the CON, but I can use the web app (and is fine here to listen to music while working). I'd argue that there are valid use cases for a web app.
