To truly describe complex issues, readers need the ability to both get a high-level view of the story and drill down to details and smaller narratives at times. Along those lines, I'm not sure why primary source material (raw transcripts of interviews, unpublished photos, links to source material) aren't included in even short reports by default. In my mind, complex stories should be reported in a format similar to a small, mostly self-contained wiki where more details are linked or hidden by default. The lack of innovation here surprises me because the news media is starving for reasons for people to consume their content. Involved, wiki-style reporting would be very hard to rip off.
