Why not a subreddit? (a topical section on the user-drive news aggregator Reddit)
- MIT_Hacker 13y agoMy friend texted me as soon as I did this. Maybe it's just me but Reddit always feels so distracting. Mostly I'm just stubborn and wanted to have control over look/layout. In all reality nowadays it takes about as long to make a subreddit as it does to make one of these haha.
- laurenstill 13y agoThere is a significant portion of the healthcare conversation (federal policy wonks, CMIO, etc) that will not use reddit for whatever reasons (confusion, overwhelming, not 'serious' etc). In the interest of developing real conversation, and not just an echo chamber, I think this is the right direction. Also, /r/healthIT and /r/healthcareIT haven't been a great success.
- basch 13y agoreddit is open source, you can spin up your own instances of it just like telescope. you could also buy a domain and redirect it to /r/secret101010110000
- sgdesign 13y agoSubreddits are awesome, but one advantage of using an open-source app like Telescope is that you can customize everything, from the color scheme to the site structure to the ranking algorithm. (disclaimer: I'm the creator of Telescope :)
- MIT_Hacker 13y agoDude. Thanks man. I created this almost entirely from my phone while sitting on a plane. All I had to do was whip out my computer while sitting at baggage claim and run 'mrt deploy www.healthhackers.org' Web is a crazy place...
- sgdesign 13y agoThat's awesome! By the way, with Giteor it's now even easier than that :) http://telesc.pe/blog/one-click-deploys-with-giteor/ http://telesc.pe/blog/one-click-deploys-with-giteor/
- MIT_Hacker 13y agoPretty sure you can't use Giteor if I want to have a custom domain? Either that or I was being silly.
- MIT_Hacker 13y agoNope. I'm silly. Damn. That's crazy.
