You're probably saying that as an ambitious man -- but happiness is not necessarily linked to "ambitious success". In fact, the opposite is likely -- if you're highly intelligent and have low ambition, it's very likely you will achieve whatever you're aiming for and lead a happy life. I say that as an ambitious person (I can't really understand "safe" people motivations either) - it's outside our capability to understand by ourselves a completely orthogonal mindset because you basically can't really simulate it to reach conclusions.
