  GPG, as I understand it, is a fork of PGP and still part of the OpenPGP Alliance

  As far as I'm aware, GPG is an implementation of OpenPGP.

It's easy for a developer, sure. We need to make it Dropbox-easy for the general population, though.

  I'm not a developer. I just learned HTML/CSS so I'm a wannabe but there's nothing that I know less about than command-line interfaces.

    Don't discredit your knowledge here. You knew or learned: - How to install GPG - How to open a terminal - How to change directories - About file extensions Maybe it's not advanced by HN standards, but you can do things that most email users would struggle with.
