I'm using Xamarin.iOS and Xamarin.Android for a modest app. I've already spent about half a year on the Android version, with special care to have all logic in a separate layer. The iOS version had catched up in 2 weeks, from scratch.
We hired a second guy for that, who had no C# experience (but more on iOS) just before I went on a 2 week holiday I just got back from.
Needless to say: Xamarin is the perfect mix of cross platform and native for us.
