- cuu508 13y agook, what about pngquant? Seems to be doing about the same thing. I've been using it in batch scripts for processing hundreds of PNGs, repeatedly, with good results. http://pngquant.org/ http://pngquant.org/
- molf 13y agoYes, pngquant is awesome. TinyPNG uses it internally and combines it with other, lossless optimizations. We built TinyPNG for ease of use (no configuration, no settings to mess around with) and to reach a wider audience. Definitely use the tools you're most comfortable with!
- RexRollman 13y agoPNGout is a pretty decent program. I install it when running Windows.
- artursapek 13y agoWhy don't you just open-source this?
- ars 13y agoBecause they don't want to? It's really nice when people open source things, but people don't have to do so, especially if they hope to make a little money off it.
- forgottenpass 13y agoBut what's the harm in asking? That comment (at the time of this post) is greyed out. So for some reason people are downvoting him for asking.
- jheriko 13y agoi didn't downvote but i really used to hate this attitude "well why don't you learn to code and make it yourself" is the gut response to it...
- forgottenpass 13y agoSure, it's easy to see things in terms of "gimme" or "fuck you, I got mine." But there's also "we're just talkin' here, no judgement is being made. They built on a BSD library, why not submit a patch?" It's not hard to read the judgement into the question though. Especially if you consider what the handful of popular viewpoints that show up on HN tend to be.
- eps 13y agoDo you realize that you are trolling? Why should they? What's in it for them?
