Arguably, it is because the lack of browser support that makes WebRTC "not matter for everyday use". We would see a lot more use if IE and Safari would implement it. And not only for video conferencing (such as https://appear.in https://appear.in), but also for multiplayer gaming, filesharing, audio recording+++
