You don't need a USB port. It plugs into the HDMI port.

    i dont see why you cant use any standard USB charger instead.

  You have to plug it in the USB port too to supply it with power

    Unless you have a TV with HDMI 1.4 + MHL which is capable of supplying enough power over HDMI (500mA).
