Tell that to anyone who has actually tried to implement a fix for a broken game design. I'm not even talking about programmers. Game design is not trivial. That's why so many games these days are either Mario clones or Doom clones. We know those are a safe bet.
- TylerE 13y agoWhere are the Mario clones? I'd love some good Mario clones. Instead they all seem to be Double Dragon/Castlevania/Metroid clones
- gagege 13y agoWell, okay. I'll give you that. I never played Castlevania or Metroid much, so I didn't think of those. But, you're right what we see now are more about shooting/ short range attacking than jumping on stuff.
- lmm 13y agoThe recent new Giana Sisters was reasonably fun, and very pretty. Though I'm judging as someone who has been away from the gaming scene for a while.
- teamonkey 13y agoIf by Mario clone you mean side-scolling linear platformer, Rayman might fit the bill.
- TylerE 13y agoRayman is close, and I enjoyed that, but there are still some attack mechanics there.
- icebraining 13y agoSuper Meat Boy?
- fennecfoxen 13y agoI favor Braid, a Mario clone with a time-travel button. :P
- shiven 13y agoLove that game! Seriously, if you haven't played it yet, do yourself a favor and play it ASAP!
- krapp 13y agoFunny enough, when I was playing around with Game Maker ages ago, almost everything that got submitted to the forums was a Mario clone. Gameplay mechanics-wise I suppose it's as simple as you can get for a platformer.
- crimzonrayne 13y ago"I like Mario, and I like Doom. LETS MAKE MARIO DOOM!" - The mindset I hear from so many game designers nowadays.
