"I understand calculus but whenever I see the little snake (integral symbol) I don't know what to do" But following up on your comment, the difficulty of math is that it is build on foundations. If you miss something because you were distracted, that hole is going to be an impediment over and over and it will create more holes until it is very difficult to make progress.
