Good point. I would agree even more, if you would replace 'number of comments' with 'number of 1st level comments', or maybe 1st and 2nd. Because in many cases when the story has a lot of comments, the majority of them are around the top comments and they are 4th+ level which usually is a discussion between a couple of people.
