Different licensing and payments to get realtime stock data from the exchanges. From what I remember, if you don't pay, then you can't get anything fresher than 15 minutes ago (which is what google finance is at actually). (I worked for a custom financial website company, and we would "service" a lot of those contracts; i.e. you buy reuters data, but don't want to consume all that yourself, so we do it for you and build out tools that you give to your customers)
