Helmets have saved my life not once, but twice. Both times were off road, at slow speeds, doing things that shouldn't have been a big deal. Neither involved any cars, but one resulted in a concussion and the other a severely sprained neck and a root canal. Both helmets were shattered. Cars are _a_ problem, not _the_ problem.
