heh, this could be the one post where a link to Tag Heur watches could actually be on topic (I'm half joking ...).
In all seriousness, I have a friend who looks quite a bit like me (both indian, both wear glasses, similar hair cuts, I'm 6'3'' 200 lbs he's 6'2'' 190, etc).
He wears nicer clothes/accessories ($1500 watch, designer jeans, the whole nine yards), and it's amazing how many more girls come up and talk to him when we're out. I know it's not quite a fair experiment, since maybe he has better body language or other hidden cues, but it's eery.
I (to a degree) buy into the theory that his expensive outfit is supposed to signal affluence, which is a bit ironic since I make nearly 50% more than him ...
[Edit: for posterities sake, the 'dead' post I responded to was a spammer posting links to knock off designer watches.]
- DTrejo 17y agoIt may be that he acts more confident because he is wearing ~5000 dollars to back him up, whereas your money is in the bank. Similar to the women like men who wear nice deodorant really because men feel more confident when they wear nice deodorant and women like confidence phenomenon.
- FooBarWidget 17y agoNo offense, but could your weight be a factor as well? Your body-mass-index is in the "overweight" category while his is barely in the "normal" category.
- smanek 17y agoHmm, it's possible. I'll gladly admit I need to lose about 20 pounds ... I can't really notice an extra 10 lbs (with clothes) on a frame my size, but maybe someone more observant can. I think you might be nitpicking a little though, my friend's BMI works out to 24.4 and mine comes to 25.0 (where 25.0 is the cutoff between 'normal' and 'overweight'). I don't really think me losing 1 lb and moving over to the 'normal' side of the line is a qualitative difference.
