I absolutely don't think people writing thank you notes to their boss is weird. I do this on almost a daily basis via email or text. This block of text does seem weird though - I think it's because she was highly emotional while writing. (Completely a guess.) And this particular portion would have likely been the most emotional for her. It's not as well composed as the rest of the fairly well-formed critique.
