This is actually somewhat funny. It combines the best parts of binary and text formats! It's slow to parse just like text and impossible to change by hand just like binary! But seriously. MathML is a huge mistake. They could've designed an actually writable format, but they didn't. It's one of the best examples of XML architects going over the top.
