You should try TotalSpaces. I can't speak for it, but it appears to replace the functionality lost from 10.6. For me Spaces in 10.5 and 10.6 is as good as any

You should try TotalSpaces. I can't speak for it, but it appears to replace the functionality lost from 10.6. For me Spaces in 10.5 and 10.6 is as good as any *nix WM and better than several due to the linear wrapping behavior (on a 2x2 grid any workspace is accessible via directional key from any other.)
