OK, personally what would I do in that hypothetical situation? Note that I would only take the trial week if I thought there was a good chance of it being a mutual match. If it didn't work out despite that, then I would consider it a good investment of my time. Compared to starting a permanent contract and it not working out, it's a great outcome. If I had several opportunities at that level of significance, then I would have already considered whether resignation from my existing job was an option.
