The main issue here is that very few of these packages follow the proper conventions to work with the `go get` tool. The author has attempted to version control his third-party deps (something `go get` lacks) in addition to using cgo (to build a C extension for Python). Plus there's a frontend with a dependency on QT5 (another complicated C-interop library which probably has its own crazy dependency maze). This is a fairly complex build, but the lack of `go gettable` packages and poor factoring of some packages is definitely making it more complex than it needs to be.
