I highly, HIGHLY recommend Airmail[0] as basically the best gmail, perhaps general email client for Mavericks.
It is incredibly actively developed (betas are free, stable on MAS), immensely feature rich, has out of the box excellent gmail-specific integration, and even great Mavericks support including in-line notification bubble replying as of today.
I have no affiliation with the app at all, but I too was incredibly dismayed by how awful Gmail + Mail.app works these days.

- cheshire137 13y agoJust bought this for $2 and am trying it out. Thanks for the recommendation!
- Lazare 13y agoI've been using Airmail for a while, and it's very functional; sort of a spiritual successor to Sparrow. The other Gmail-on-OSX clients I've tried don't feel ready for prime time in comparison. (Again, no affiliation; just like the product.)
- techscruggs 13y agoAgreed. Airmail is my favorite email client too. Just to set expectations, it does crash daily on me. That being said, it is still the best option out there.
- MartinCron 13y agoIt's a sad state of affairs when the best option is one that crashes daily.
- Lazare 13y agoI've been using it for many months, heavily, and I think it's crashed once...and that was while using one of the beta builds. Experiences clearly vary. :)
- jdhendrickson 13y agoIf it had mail filters then yeah I would agree with you but the inability to route mail to a specific folder made using it so painful with a high volume of mail messages that I only need to look at occasionally.
- TheSwordsman 13y agoI'm going to need to +1 this as well. It's a kick-ass mail client and I've had minimal issues on the beta builds. I expect a guinea pig experience if I opt-in to be a guinea pig. And it's been a nice life as a guinea pig I will say.
- interpol_p 13y agoIt looks like a great start, but Sparrow still feels nicer to use. I hope Airmail becomes Sparrow's eventual replacement, it certainly looks to be going in that direction. I dislike all the options in Airmail's preferences pane. I hope they choose what they like best and stop offering those choices to me.
- aroman 13y agoI agree. That said, I have found that even though they have (I would agree) an excessive amount of preferences, they are all set to sane defaults so you definitely do not need to spend 10 minutes ticking checkboxes unless you want to.
