Easy to use and learn, good standard library, it gets the work done. Does it have a future outside google? I'd say yes, even in the enterprise world, mostly in mixed architectures where it could be used to build a lower layer that handles networking/transaction processing/jobs handling (replacing python,ruby,etc...) while upper layers could be built with a functional language (based on the jvm? clojure?).
