That's true, however the US has a huge interest and 65 year track record supporting global free trade, which is a system that other countries can get on board with. Certain oil-producing nations aside, this isn't mercantilism, and if the EU and East Asia had a problem with our military presence then we'd probably hear more than token protests about it.
