I'm one of the founders of Redecentralize.org.
My own main motivation wasn't just privacy, but also resilience (against, say, hurricanes) and fun (the web doesn't have the same joy it once did).
So my favourite interview so far is the mobile mesh network one http://redecentralize.org/interviews/2013/08/14/04-paul-serval.html http://redecentralize.org/interviews/2013/08/14/04-paul-serv...
I also think it is important that new algorithms like DHT (Kademlia), BitCoin and GFShare get known and used to their full extent.
Please get in touch if you've a project that would like interviewing!

- lancewiggs 13y agoPlease see and respond to the comments above about the ineffectiveness of using only videos to communicate your messages. Whatever they are.
- frabcus 13y agoYep - have filed a bug and replied with link to it. Thinking about what we should do!
- pavanky 13y agoExcerpts and full transcriptions of the interview might me helpful.
- antocv 13y agoYeah, its very annoying, I want to get into this and see what its all about, but Im not gonna turn on a video just for that.

- HNLogInShit 13y agoAmen. I followed the link, saw that "watch the videos" was the only option, and bailed immediately.

And an implementation: https://github.com/goraft/raft https://github.com/goraft/raft Decentralised conversations :)
- frabcus 13y agoWow! That looks very interesting
- infocollector 13y agoHere is another project in the same spirit: https://register.blib.us https://register.blib.us
- frabcus 13y agoDo you know who the best person we can interview about this is? Looks really interesting / important.
- JulianMorrison 13y agoRaft isn't for "decentralized" exactly, because it relies on knowing the number and identities of participants (and deliberately stops being able to commit updates when the number falls below a quorum). It's "no single point of failure" but the algorithm implies a sysadmin in control.
- nickthemagicman 13y agoThanks for your efforts. This needs to happen.
- femto 13y agoNot my project, but it's an interesting one, in that it starts to break down the current hierarchical physical network topology: http://ronja.twibright.com/ http://ronja.twibright.com/
- cryptolect 13y agoI recommend you interview cjd of https://github.com/cjdelisle/cjdns https://github.com/cjdelisle/cjdns, which is powering http://projectmeshnet.org/ http://projectmeshnet.org/
- nsm 13y agoBuddycloud.
- devx 13y agoWhat feature would we need in Android by default, to make meshnets a lot more possible? Like some sort of auto-connection to whatever Wi-Fi is close to you. I'm hoping that once the carriers themselves start to push users to use wi-fi for offloading from their network, the more Android and iOS and others will have features to make that easy, and the closer meshnets will be to reality.
