any suggestions on the best scripts to set something like this up? I have a similar "ornot" site that I would love to get off the ground but not sure which platform to choose
- run4yourlives 17y agoScripts? It's a database table with images with scores that are randomly accessed and presented to the user. When the user clicks on a photo, + to score, and reload the page with new photos. All the rest is just candy, really. Point being either it is trival to create this yourself, or you could google it. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=hot+or+not+scripts http://lmgtfy.com/?q=hot+or+not+scripts
- jimmyjim 17y agoIn the face of the current economic conditions (i.e., US is at a terrible consuming/producing imbalance, and, well.. the only future in light of this is grim), these quick-buck strategies that seem to appeal only to the lowest common denominator start to seem alluring, indeed, only for the quick bucks. Wouldn't it be a better idea to allocate your time and resources elsewhere? Perhaps at something that may prove to be fruitful in the long term?
- dthakur 17y agoIt's a good skills refresher for someone like me who hasn't done any web programming for a few years.
- run4yourlives 17y agoWell no, I don't think it's worth spending all that much time on either. But if you could do it in a weekend, and bring in a few thousand dollars a year because of it, so be it.

- EGF 17y agoPoint well taken. I usually use a simple request to show interest in a new category, and hope someone interested gets involved. My interest is in something slightly more complicated than the turnkey sites that are out there, as well as more of a helpful tool to entrepreneurs and advertisers - the thesis of the idea is best represented by an "ornot script" but it goes beyond another "me too" site that already exists. My thoughts of adding value using something that is fairly widespread may be futile though.
- run4yourlives 17y agoUnderstood. I was responding to a guy that is sitting on a domain though. That means it's a net loser for him unless he does something with it. Now, you can approach that by dedicating a lot of time and effort into building something unique, as you would like to do, or you can just realize that the market is pretty bare and launch something that will make some pocket change at worst. Given that he's considering giving the domain away for free, I simply suggested he do the latter.
