Is parrot friendly about mixing and matching libraries? If there's a library available in perl, how hard is it to use those libraries from another language in the same process? If not parrot, are there are other VMs that are friendly like this?
The reason I ask is that the most important thing about a language platform seems to be available libraries. But I wonder whether that's necessarily language bound - shouldn't it be more a VM issue?
- cninja 17y agoIt is being discussed http://docs.parrot.org/parrot/devel/html/docs/pdds/draft/pdd31_hll_interop.pod.html http://docs.parrot.org/parrot/devel/html/docs/pdds/draft/pdd... but not much has been documented yet: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Parrot_Virtual_Machine/HLL_Interoperation http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Parrot_Virtual_Machine/HLL_Inte...
- stcredzero 17y agoWell, things like calls from languages with variable length arg lists to ones without and vice-versa can be pretty sticky. (They are always doable, but doing it and making it fast is a little harder.)
