- pavel_lishin 13y agoMay I ask how old you are? I feel like a lot of people my age with an interest in "hacking" had one of these back in the day.
- ck2 13y agoSteve Jobs started like that (blue boxing) and somehow avoided prison like what would happen today. Could be an alternate universe timeline for him.
- gcb0 13y agoironically, every self respecting hacker would be ok if he was trhow in jail for that. He didn't invent it or anything close to that, but tried to sell and make money. lacking a proper car analogy, akin to a script kiddie advertising malware he found on some BBS of later.
- periferral 13y agoim 36. One disclaimer is that I didn't grow up in the US. Since I've been here, I've owned a cell phone and the need to use payphones were very limited. Maybe you can share how old you are to get a sense of what age group carried these around?
- pavel_lishin 13y agoNobody, now, for the reasons you said. I think I was around 13, which would have been 1997 - a red box was a simple thing to build if you had any sort of soldering supplies, and moderately fun to play with. I didn't even really have anyone I needed to call - I think I probably used it maybe three times in my entire life.
