Had the same problem. I simply added statement to project readme, that I may forward question to public lists. I refuse to repeat myself and documentation for my project is not ready yet. For private conversation I usually require donation. Keeping information public is crucial for long-term success. You lose interest and someone alse may want to takeover. But it is nearly impossible without mailing list, unit tests, various prototypes and commit history.
