I'm going for my undergraduate degree in CS. Java is the language used in the general programming courses, e.g. Intro to Programming (CS 101) and Advanced Programming (CS 210). I'm taking a C++ class but it was one out of a selection of courses I could take. The java classes are required for everyone going for a CS degree. I think Java is still the main teaching language at most colleges, at least in the beginning courses. I don't think that's going to change for awhile either.
