A typical barcode scan on a g1 takes 4-5 seconds. It would take a long time to scan a large collection of books. This is a cool proof of concept and a sweet demonstration of ASE, but it'd be wiser to purchase a $100 barcode scanner for scanning a large collection of books.
- paulgb 17y agoReally? That's embarrassingly slow. Does it do better for QR-codes? It'd be wiser to purchase a $100 barcode scanner for scanning a large collection of books. You could also try a CueCat, if you can find one on eBay.
- DTrejo 17y agoUnder good conditions (plenty of light, not much shaking), it may be faster that 4-5 seconds.
- pierrefar 17y agoReally? Turning on the camera does take a few seconds, but then it's very quick to focus and snap barcodes. I find the limitation is due to ambient light rather, once you get the camera up.
- smokinn 17y agoBut a barcode scanner can't connect to the internet. It's pretty obvious that at some point someone's going to write an app so that you can snap a barcode and compare with prices online. Your barcode scanner may be faster but that's much more convenient.
