I think a lot of the outrage comes from the fact that the price Apple advertised during WWDC and well... everywhere, was the subsidized price. Whereas I can go out tomorrow and buy a macbook at the prices Apple advertises during WWDC, the same isn't true for the iphone. Hence the confusion.

It only means that Apple is playing the same stupid game. Why does nobody blame Apple? Hm, maybe Apple counted on that...
