In NZ we had an advertising campaign against it, and then in 2009 it was made illegal to use your phone while driving (excepting "infrequent and brief" GPS use and hands-free calling). If you're caught there's a small fine, but a comparatively large number of demerit points are applied to your license (after sufficiently many of which your license can be revoked).
