It is interesting to watch ARM finally adopting many of the great architectural solutions that MIPS used 22 years ago, back in 1991, when it launched the MIPS R4000 family of 64 bit processors. [1]

- bodyfour 13y agoThe original ARM ISA felt very VAX-inspired to me, such as the elegant (but ultimately inefficient) use of a general-purpose register for the program counter. I've only just started looking at AArch64 but I agree that it feels a lot more like MIPS though. I think that's a good thing.
