I disagree with the findings being a blanket truth. I encounter a great many persons that appear to maintain their own internal pride by practicing anonymous civility in the everyday world. So much so that it becomes almost competitive courtesy that eats a little extra time. I'm fine with some of that. Perhaps the strategy is selfish shrewdness: to prevent misunderstandings that could be very costly.
