I believe the "web 2.0" bubble did pop in 2008. However, we saw the rise of the "app economy" at the same time. Anyone failing in the web 2.0 sector could easily, and often transparently, pivot to the sudden demand for mobile applications. Whether that is a sign of the software industry maturing, or if it was just plain good luck, remains to be seen.
