I interned for a health care company where the lady in charge of my work had a Microsoft Access database with a single table.
That table had something like 500 columns.
I spent a week or so understanding and created a decent normalized relational database model.
I was not allowed to make any changes. The reason given was 'You will leave, who would understand and maintain all these tables'
- lacker 17y agoThe reason given was 'You will leave, who would understand and maintain all these tables' Well, that's a good point. Fixing the database is great, but there has to be someone who understands the system after the intern leaves. At that point you need to figure out who would maintain after you leave and get them to be the champion of the new system.
